1971 – Fresh out of skool! Teversal Colliery - mining electrical craft apprenticeship.
The best training scheme any where at the time but extremely limited when it came to actually getting into the control system repairs. Just changing the plug & socket control boxes was not for me!

1975 – First electronics job! C.W. Clifford Ltd - Radio/TV & electronics apprenticeship.
Fault finding down to component level in the early days of colour TV! I caught the tail end of valve technology and saw the evolution into transistorised/digital technology and even the birth of home video recording. Eventually my career drifted towards concentrating on audio systems, I was designing my own Hi-Fi amplifiers and speaker systems by then. I made the grade to senior engineer eventually.

1984 – Quality assurance & customer service engineer! Carlsbro electronics Ltd - manufacturer of musicians electronics.
Some pretty complex digital audio signal processing equipment here, e.g. echo, phasing, flangers, chorus, reverberation. These are all variations of effects used by lead guitarists. Predominately these effects are based on time delayed signals being mixed back with the original signal in various proportions and then fed back into the delay circuit again. Before cheap digital memory was available, this used to be done by using analogue "bucket brigade" chips (anyone remember them?) The works manager asked me to design an indexing conveyor system for the electronics production line here. Including pre-start warning and a system of lights to indicate when the line workers should stop and start as well! Apparently this system was a good thing as far as production figures were concerned, the line workers were not so happy!

1988 – Back to industrial work! Mindon Engineering Ltd - manufacturer of industrial process systems.
Everything was designed and built in house here! All the electrical and electronic control systems, the sheet metal work, structural steel and even a canal boat for the MD's son, Mindon used to make them years before. This is also where I used to work with the eventual MD of Best engineering. He was an installation and service engineer then, He had the task of installing everything I designed and built because I was spending most of my time beavering away in the electrical department and the drawing office.

2001 – More design work - Best Engineering Ltd- industrial design, build, service & installations - loads to do here! Breakdowns at Tarmac & RMC concrete plants, water board installations and loads of new designs for process control equipment.

2003 – Cadman Electrical is born! Industrial design, build, installation and service.
I've been kept pretty busy since the beginning and long may it continue! My wife and I, with the family in tow eventually moved home to a commercial property where we re-established Cadman Electrical and started from scratch a second business called "Coppertops'", the nickname for red heads like her! Diversity is key to survival in this game, so opening a convenience store and off licence is about as diverse as you can get. So if you ever come to see us one of these days, you now know where we live!
I'm sure we can find you a little something off the shelves to sip while we talk or perhaps just a cup of tea?
